This hugely impressive out-of-town museum has come up with an exhibition that matches in ambition the wide scope of its collection. Through the chosen 100 paintings of the show’s title, the museum’s curators are attempting to trace 500 years of Western art history from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Many of the big names are here, including Breughel, Renoir, Chagall and Warhol and it’s a rare treat to see so many masterworks under one roof.
