Robert Moskowitz – Paintings and Drawings

This small collection by the celebrated American contemporary Robert Moskowitz, whose work has adorned the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, has been called one of the best international shows now running in Prague. The spare, nearly colourless images of Moskowitz are no less involving for their leanness. Instead, they seem intended to focus perception on spiritual questions and notions of harmony.

Remains of the Day

Five hundred years ago, before Spanish conquistadors “discovered” the new world, numerous native tribes controlled the land. One of them, the Incas, developed advanced agricultural methods and masonry, and subjecting neighboring tribes, rose above the rest to establish a mighty empire. At the height of their influence, the Incas dominated the Andean and coastal region from present-day Chile to northern Ecuador. Cusco, in southern Peru, was their imperial capital, and is now the site of most significant ruins. The highlights are pretty obvious to most visitors. Though over-touristed, the sacred city of Machu Picchu is an unforgettable experience. Many intrepid visitors arrive by foot, over the legendary Inca Trail Numerous other ruins await around Cusco.

Sail Crazy

Italian and American sailing fans, however, will need to set their alarmsand stock up on coffee to keep their eyes open for the matches, since the racing is centred around Auckland, New Zealand – half a worldaway from the cup’s namesake continent. Despite its remoteness, Auckland promises an ideal focus for the world’s yachting enthusiasts. Squeezed onto a narrow isthmus between the sparkling Waitemata and Manukau harbors, the inhabitants of New Zealand’s largest and most cosmopolitan city are never far from the sea. The brightly colored sails of the wind-surfers, yachts, and catamarans of Aucklanders at play form a tapestry that enlivens this most aptly dubbed “City of Sails”. The bays and strands near the city are perfect for swimming and sunbathing, while the stunning black-sand beaches of Auckland’s west coast provide a surfing and recreation environment that the drawl of the local’s lingo could only praise as “choice, mate!”. To get there from Australia, book cheap flights to Auckland and try to get there during the shoulder season, so you don’t blow all your spending money on the airfares.
